Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the initial names in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.

And both candidates - each of whom have previous associations to the club - are among the options to be considered by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a potential hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of hiring a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham United midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
