After multiple episodes of suspense, plots and backstabbing, Celebrity Traitors concludes with a thrilling finale
Spoiler alert - This article discloses key moments from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Throughout the season, audiences saw eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and a memorable moment that pierced the overwhelming tension.
However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first celebrity edition emerged triumphant.
From 19 contestants, only five remained: Traitors and loyal players facing off for the winnings.
Soon, the field narrowed to just three: the final players.
Ultimately, funny man Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a surprising outcome that broke the internet and made him tearful.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he exclaimed, revealing to the other players that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You did brilliantly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."
Social media quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," commented a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," stated a different person, while someone else described it as "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from comic relief to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the season.
But his win still left the nation surprised, as noted by industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, of all people, executing a masterclass in deception felt about as likely as him maintaining a straight face through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained why no one had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to the morning meal in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," a player said.
"The majority didn't target him because how can you vote for a person so charming?" asked another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "absolutely loved" his experience with the show.
"I'd like to do it again... I doubt it would work a second time!"
The final episode was lengthened to over an hour on television. It had an unusual opening than typical episodes, as all the celebs knew who would appear at the morning gathering.
There was particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as we recapped key scenes from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, the comedian provided unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I began this game as something of an anxious mess. I've betrayed close allies to save myself, I've murdered national treasures openly. I'm clearly more deceptive and player than I thought."
At the same time, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "significantly more pressure than competing with a national team", while another said he was "totally surprised" to have made it so far.
Early on of the finale, several players appeared to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the competition, replacing an earlier departed fashionable contestant.
The winner appeared at breakfast looking like a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
But he was outstyled by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.
Following this was the challenge, with the remaining contestants boarding a train named - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge involved destroying images of former contestants. Have sympathy for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.
Before long, the moment arrived for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors made a pact in advance, vowing to stick together. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," stated one, while the other simply laughed.
However, one did stick to their agreement. But, having slipped unnoticed for most of the game, their partner still got the most votes.
The last deceiver appeared he was in a world of pain to be the last traitor standing. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, a rudderless ship."
Online platforms and viewers were similarly upset.
"I hoped against this contestant to be banished. A truly loveable traitor," said an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," posted a different viewer.
However, there remained no time to dwell on this departure. Soon, the game reached the endgame - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players stood over the ceremonial fire. And the alliance collapsed, precisely when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their ally, who betrayed them.
"It hurts to be betrayed at the final moment in that manner," said the ousted contestant. Later, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the eliminated contestant refers to their former ally by a betrayer's name.
Finally, only three contestants were still competing: the final trio.
One player, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by another, and it all came down to the third, who did the same - resulting in the deceiver emerged victorious.
For observers, the scene where the other players consoled the champion was "compelling television". "I predict it could be a contender for outstanding scene at next year's awards," they said.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and was able to enjoy the moment.
"Such an emotional journey. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and here I am the champion," the winner said.
And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his close ally during the initial stages - by reaching over the host in the final scene and touching her cheek.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, plotting and the occasional unexpected moments may feel like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually occur. It will be remembered fondly.
